Biggest Cyber Monday In History, Up 18.2%; Google, Apple Dominate

On the internet Thursday 2013 was the biggest internet purchasing day in history, with 18.2% increase in online revenue in comparison to On the internet Thursday 2012. This according to Custora Beat, the continuously modified dashboard of U.S. e-commerce. The Beat is depending on Custora’s analysis of over 70 million internet buyers and over $10 billion in e-commerce income across over 100 US-based web stores.

One in three buys on On the internet Thursday was done on cellular phones (phones and tablets), with The apple company dominating 80% of cellular revenue. Almost 40% of e-commerce buys originated on search (24%) and paid search (15%). While Google no doubt enjoyed delivering these results, public business didn’t happen on On the internet Thursday, with Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and other public networking sites accounting for less than 1% of internet purchasing. Social systems are still used mostly for raising brand awareness, not for online buys.

Overall this vacation purchasing year (since November 1st), online revenues and buys are up 20%, online visitors are up 21%, and the average order value has not changed in comparison to 2012.

Custora also reports that the percentage of vacation income earned on On the internet Thursday grew by 74% over the past four years. It’s important to keep in mind, however, that On the internet Thursday accounted for only 5.2% of total vacation income last year.

The Custora Beat is modified daily throughout the christmas year, so you can find out how the internet retailers—and supporting players such as The apple company and Google—are doing post-Cyber Thursday. The Beat also enables web stores to benchmark themselves against U.S. e-commerce industry performance along key performance metrics.
